Artist Management & Consulting

For over 15 years I’ve run my own successful artist management company, Mike Savage Artist Management, Inc. For several years, I also ran a retainer-based artist consultancy company called ArtistAdvisors. I’m available for 30-minute one-on-one phone/Zoom consults HERE.

Here’s a bit about some of the acts I’ve worked with over the years…

MEIKO

MEIKO

I've been working with singer-songwriter Meiko for over 15 years. We'd self-released her 2007 debut album, landed dozens of film and television sync licenses, garnered major market airplay and sold about 60,000 albums, topping the iTunes Singer-Songwriter charts, all with no help from a label or publisher. This sparked a bidding war, leading to a deal with MySpace/Interscope Records, a re-release of the debut album and an additional 40,000 copies sold, major network TV performances, multiple tours of the U.S. and some festival dates in Australia. When MySpace Records folded, we negotiated a two-album deal with Concord Music Group, continued to excel with sync licenses and tour dates, and had a #1 single in Japan. The touring base continued to grow in the UK, mainland Europe, Japan and China. Meiko continues to record, release music and tour - self-releasing some of her best albums yet, including In Your Dreams (2019), the four-song Weird World EP (2020) and most recently the Sorry I Missed You LP.

MARIÉ DIGBY

MARIÉ DIGBY

I started working with another great singer-songwriter, Marié Digby, in 2015. It had been a few years since she’d left Hollywood Records after a successful run there with her 2008 Unfold album, and we decided to go at it independently moving forward. In 2016, she co-headlined a run of U.S. dates with Meiko. Called the Hapa Tour (both artists are part-Asian, or ‘hapa’), I was able to get them sponsorship opportunities from organizations including PledgeMusic and the USC Ito Hapa Japan Project, and the tour garnered a solid amount of press. In 2017 Marie wrote and recorded an EP titled Wildfire, and we raised funds on PledgeMusic to pay for the marketing and promotion. Wildfire debuted at #4 on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Albums Chart. In June 2018 we decided to release an album’s worth of covers that Marie had recorded and posted on YouTube over the years. Titled Pop Covers, the LP has garnered over 350K streams on Spotify, and the tracks have a combined 2 million YouTube streams. Marie recently got married, and self-released a 4-song wedding-themed EP titled Songs Of Us.

ALEXA MELO

ALEXA MELO

In 2014 I started working as a management consultant for singer/songwriter/producer Alexa Melo. The then 19 year-old had just been let out of her recording contract with Island Records and had a full album ready to be released. I helped her put together a team consisting of publicity, college and alternative specialty radio promotion as well as video promotion and in-store retail promo. Her band played dozens of shows in Southern California, we garnered a great amount of press and radio airplay (including spins on KROQ, ALT 987, KCRW, KLOS and KCSN – a Los Angeles quinfecta!) along with a spotlight/performance on KTLA5 Los Angeles. Just as momentum was beginning to build, Alexa had to have surgery on her vocal chords, which put a halt to our efforts. While she was recuperating, we released her Lotus Flower LP, collection of Radiohead covers she’d recorded for YouTube over the years. The album has garnered over 500K Spotify streams (the YouTube videos have over 2 million plays). All of her YouTube videos, between the covers and original songs have over 8 million plays.

In 2018, Alexa released an EP titled Mute, and songs from the collection garnered airplay on former Alt-outlet KITS San Francisco. The station included Alexa in their Top 10 Bay Area Artists list of 2018 (and also in 2019). 2020 saw the release of DEMOÏTIS, a collection of demos Alexa had on file, and in 2021 she put out her highly-anticipated album RED NOISE, with several singles leading into its release. Alexa writes, produces and plays all the instruments on her recordings – a remarkable talent, and still only 28 years old.

SLOWKISS

SLOWKISS

In early 2017 I started working with the Chilean alt-punk band Slowkiss. After helping them apply for grants from the Chilean government and assisting with other international travel paperwork, I was able to get them an official showcase at SXSW 2017, along with several other performance opportunities while in Austin. They got some great press coverage and it was the perfect introduction to the U.S. market.

About a dozen showcases in Los Angeles post-SXSW brought out major and indie label A&R execs as well as booking agents and some film/TV music supervisors. In June, we independently-released a single called “Pink Death” which garnered Alternative radio specialty airplay in about 10 major markets across the U.S. as well as some great blog coverage. Slowkiss came back to L.A. in the fall, and we self-released their Ultraviolet EP. I’d also helped license the vinyl to Wiretap Records, and had the band play a series of shows across the southwest, including a month-long residency at the Viper Room in Los Angeles.

The band recorded a full album here in Hollywood, but due to some lineup changes, the recordings were permanently shelved. However, with a new lineup and a brand-new album recorded in Argentina and Chile, the band will be back Stateside soon – this time around with an even darker, heavier sound!

mermaed

mermaed

In the summer of 2018 I began managing the L.A.-based pop-punk four-piece mermaed – mainly based on the strength of one song I was sent, and a meeting with the singer and guitarist. I immediately sent the track (“IDIOT”) to Apple Music who plugged it into their “Breaking Rock” playlist. KROQ Los Angeles became a huge champion as well, with the single becoming #1 most-voted on their “Locals Only” show for over a month straight. The track was included on KROQ’s first-ever “Locals Only” vinyl compilation as well. Specialty airplay in other major markets soon followed (with an official add at WAPS Akron) and the band was included in the Taco Bell ‘Feed The Beat’ promotion in the fall. Another single, “HONEST” was released, and the band played several local, KROQ-presented shows in early 2019. The band is no longer together, but founders Ariel and Jacob are working on exciting new projects - I’m predicting big things for these kids!

ODDNOTE

ODDNOTE

In 2018 I was sent a song from a Nashville-based band called Oddnote. Four guys still attending Belmont University, with an absolute smash of a single called “Money Comes, Money Goes”. After a few conversations, I took them on as a management client, and sent the track over to Spotify, who immediately plugged the song into their “Rockin’ Vibes” and “Dirty Rock” playlists. It’s received over 1M streams to date. The track also gets regular airplay on both WBUZ Nashville and WRLT Nashville, and tastemaker music blogs have also covered the single.
Oddnote frontman Arman Asadsangabi is currently writing/recording new material.

RADIO COMPANY

RADIO COMPANY

In late 2019 I linked up with Steve Carlson and Jensen Ackles, founders and primary members of the Austin, TX-based band Radio Company. They'd completed their debut LP, Vol. 1, and needed help with the album rollout. I was brought on as a consultant to help create a release calendar incorporating a vinyl pre-order campaign, as well as Spotify pre-save and iTunes album pre-order campaigns.
The result of our efforts were beyond impressive: Vol. 1 was the #1 Billboard Heatseekers Album two weeks in a row, and was the #1 highest-selling album on iTunes in EVERY country around the world the week of its release. The album has over 20M streams on Spotify.

Radio Company brought me on once again to quarterback the release of their sophomore effort, Vol. 2, in 2021. It debuted at #16 on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart. The band will release a new, third album very soon.

KELLY SWEET / HALIENE

KELLY SWEET / HALIENE

From 2011 into 2016 I worked as a consultant for Kelly Sweet (now p/k/a HALIENE). She had an incredible finished, unreleased album called Ashes Of My Paradise that her label partner decided against putting out, so we asked to be released from the contract with them. JVC/Victor in Japan released the LP in 2012 and it became the #1 Vocal Album on iTunes Japan upon release. In early 2014, Kelly recorded a remake of the Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight” and I spearheaded its release – the song was licensed for several major film/TV trailers and commercials, sold over 30,000 copies and has been streamed on YouTube over 2 million times and 1 million times on Spotify.

Kelly decided to change her performing name to HALIENE and focus on topline co-writing and featured vocal performances for EDM artists. I helped with outreach and awareness-building, negotiated fees, splits, etc., and in a short span of time, Kelly became one of the genre’s most sought-after collaborators/vocalists. Co-writes and featured vocals with acts including Seven Lions, Illenium, Slander, Breathe Carolina and more have now racked up well over 100M combined streams.

ESTHERO

ESTHERO

In 2012 and 2013 I managed highly-regarded, Juno-nominated Canadian singer and songwriter Esthero. I was tasked with orchestrating a release campaign for her Everything Is Expensive album, despite having no budget to work with. We ran a successful PledgeMusic campaign to raise funds for marketing and promotion, licensed the album to Universal Canada for a Canada-only release, and mirrored their marketing/promo efforts in the U.S. with our own self-release, PR and radio campaigns. The album debuted at #13 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart Stateside, and we landed multiple song placements in major network television programs.

CAPITAL CITIES

CAPITAL CITIES

In 2011, I worked as a marketing/management consultant for Grammy-nominated alt-pop act Capital Cities. Prior to their signing with Capitol Records, I helped them create awareness of their independently-released, self-titled debut EP, which contained their hit song “Safe And Sound”. I quarterbacked online PR, college and alternative specialty radio campaigns, leading to numerous press hits and several weeks at the top of the alt-specialty charts. Local radio airplay led to sold-out L.A.-area shows and label interest, culminating in a label deal with Capitol, who re-issued “Safe And Sound”, bringing it to #1 on the U.S. Alternative Radio chart (and #1 in Germany).

OREN LAVIE

OREN LAVIE

In 2009-2010 I worked with songwriter/author/theater & video director Oren Lavie. I was brought onto the team in a management capacity to help continue the awareness-building of his viral video hit for “Her Morning Elegance”. We’d set up several L.A.-area showcases, which were heavily attended by writers, film/TV music supervisors, and label executives. We also put on an art gallery showing of the individual photographs from the stop-motion video where Oren also performed. Oren ended up getting nominated for a “Best Short Form Music Video” Grammy and the video now has 34M YouTube views. He has since moved back to his native Israel, and in 2014 released a children’s book called “The Bear Who Wasn’t There”. Lavie's second studio album, Bedroom Crimes, was released in May 2017.
